Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney extends the deadline for submitting works in the literary and graphic arts competition for teenagers on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the birth of Joseph Conrad till 31st August 2017

The Polish Parliament declared 2017 as the Year of Joseph Conrad, an outstanding Polish author, whose works have permanently entered the canon of world literature. Therefore, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney has the pleasure to announce a literary and graphic arts competition for teenagers aged 12-18 of either Polish or Australian heritage. The aim of the competition is to spread knowledge of Joseph Conrad’s literary work, and of his Polish origins in the 160th anniversary of his birth.

The competition consists in preparing a literary or graphic work inspired by the books of this eminent writer. The literary work should take the form of an essay in Polish or English on the subject: ‘To follow the dream, and again to follow the dream – and so – always – usque ad finem… Dreams of modern teenagers: how far - or near - are they to the ones that Lord Jim used to have?’

The graphic arts category consists in designing a book cover for one of Joseph Conrad's works.

The entries should be delivered to the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney (10 Trelawney St., Woollahra, 2025 NSW) until 31st August 2017 with the inscription: ‘Literature and graphic arts competition’.
